We were much later told that the Plaquenil had "lowered his tolerance to infection, as it is also an immuno-suppressant." In essence, the medicine allowed the viral infection to cross the barrier between his brain and blood/lungs. His/our question is as to whether he can or should EVER go back on the medication and risk exposure to further illnesses if it is true that Plaquenil or the generic for is, in fact, an immuno-suppressant and presents a serious health risk for him?

All the patients they'd encountered w/lower levels had died. (He was never told of that risk when he was put on the medication.) Since chloroquine is an 'old' drug, repurposing it to help breast cancer patients should also be very cost effective." Hydroxychloroquine inhibits autophagy, a prosurvival process that breast cancer cells induce and that antiestrogens can stimulate. Whether interfering with this process can enhance breast cancer therapy remains unknown. Mar 14, 2012 “And when Temsirolimus a cancer drug was tested in melanoma, it had zero percent stable disease rate,” said Amaravadi. “And when we combined with hydroxychloroquine malaria drug, the stable disease rate went up to 76 percent so that’s a very big difference.” Researchers used a high dose. Nov 15, 2015 Indeed, preclinical studies have shown that the pharmacological inhibition of autophagy with agents including chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, metformin, and desmethylclomipramine can enhance the cell-killing effect of cancer therapeutics, and a number of these agents are currently under investigation in clinical trials. However, many of these autophagy modulators are relatively nonspecific, and cytotoxicity in noncancerous tissues is still a concern.
