In RA patients, there was large variability as to the fraction of the dose absorbed i.e. 30 to 100%, and mean hydroxychloroquine levels were significantly higher in patients with less disease activity. According to the American College of Rheumatology, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, is a “disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD,” meaning that it helps reduce the pain and swelling that come with arthritis. It can also reduce the incidence of joint damage, thus lessening the risk of developing a long-term disability from complications of RA.

Has anyone experienced plaquenil toxicity with damage to eyes? Aug 01, 2009 I have been taking plaquenil for a little over 10 years and getting eye exams regularly. Suddenly I'm experiencing eye problems blilnd spots. I have stopped taking plaquenil, but now I'm being told by doctors that the damage is not necessarily reversible especially if you have taken it for a long time.
