The reason he wanted me to cut back was due to my elevated liver enzymes. I was on a interstitial bladder medication that we thought might be causing the elevated numbers, so I cut back on that, but they were still slightly elevated. The only other thing I take is the Plaquenil. So for 2 weeks he reduced my dose and then we are going to retest. Patients should be warned about driving and operating machinery since PLAQUENIL hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets can impair accommodation and cause blurring of vision. If the condition is not self-limiting, dosage may need to be temporarily reduced. Malaria I also take Plaquenil 200mgx2 since 2009. If I fall asleep and forget my dose I start to feel like the tin man from Oz all stiff and sore so Plaquenil is my ''oil'' or most important med for 'getting up and moving around''. I cant imagine cutting back or doing w/out it. I pray it never stops working.

Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of hydroxychloroquine in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have age-related kidney problems, which may require caution and an adjustment in the dose for patients receiving this medicine. Breastfeeding I'd recommend that you stick with it for at least a year before you decide one way or another. It kinda sucked for me to try it for a few months and then just have my rheumy put me back on it after I had stopped for 6 months. If you do decide to cut it out, half your dose for awhile first to see if you get worse then if not half it again. Hydroxychloroquine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. For prevention of malaria in adults, two tablets are usually taken once a week on exactly the same day of each week. The first dose is taken 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an area where malaria is common, and then doses are continued for 8 weeks after exposure.

Plaquenil - @Cookiiez95 - Autoimmune diseases - 20140827. Aug 27, 2014 Cookiiez95 - I tried plaquenil for 6 months on top of methotrexate rheumatoid arthritis + other autoimmune diagnoses and saw no benefit, but don't recall having negative side effects, either. It also failed to help my mom, who was on it for years, despite its failure to help.
